Betty Hutton's granddaughter, Courtney Lindberg, has donated one of her famous grandmother's mink coats to PETA to educate people about the cruelty of the fur industry. Lindberg says she stumbled upon her grandmother's fur while cleaning out a closet. Knowing that she would never wear the coat herself—and loath to sell it to a fan who might wear it—she thought of PETA. "I hoped donating it would be helpful," she said. "In the least, it would ensure that the coat would not be sold or worn in the name of fashion!" Click here to read Courtney's story of how she became a vegetarian.

A brand new musical stage show entitled "Betty", based on the life of Betty Hutton, has its world premiere this week at Theatre Asylum in Los Angeles as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival. This is an original work written by Shelby Bond, who was introduced to Betty Hutton as a child by his grandmother. "I fell in love with her over-the-top energy," he said. Bringing Betty to life again is Kellydawn Malloy, a seasoned performer who has been singing Betty songs since she was a child. She has all the verve and explosive presence as Betty, in addition to sharing a similarly painful past, which makes the connection and her desire to tell the story even stronger. Kellydawn considers this her dream role. “Betty is my idol. To show her to the world again is a dream come true.” Please come out and show your support if you're in the area! For more information on the project, visit hollywoodfringe.org.

Singer Lucy Woodward is preparing the release of her third album, Hooked!, due in stores June 15th and says that Betty Hutton was a major influence on her new musical direction. Woodward says the experience of covering Hutton's "It's Oh So Quiet" for a film soundtrack a few years ago reconnected her with her musical roots and set her back on a more personal creative path. "That was the turning point for me," she says. "It felt so organic and so right, and I felt so connected singing it. I realized that this is the music I should be making." Woodward added, "[Betty's] fearlessness just blew me away. When a singer can make her voice dance, that's what moves me." Click here to order Hooked!
